I enjoyed this entire project! I'm so glad Mrs. Browning gave us this opportunity. We could all learn about something we loved. Our teachers could come and see what things we were interested in, and we could learn about what our friends like. Overall I loved every part of this project it was great!

DIY 20% Crafts

I spent 20% of my time looking through websites and pinterest for unique diy crafts. I set myself a goal that I would try to do a craft every two weeks. I found a lot of ideas, but I only accomplished about 10 crafts total. I wish I would’ve done more in the time that I had, but I didn’t.  Even though the school year will be over, I found a lot of ideas I’m going to continue to try. Since I didn’t do a craft every two weeks, I didn’t necessarily reach my goal. Although I am satisfied with how everything turned out.

I learned a lot from this project, like to be patient, responsible, and to think outside the box. Some ideas I had to think of on my own. There were times I would start a craft and realize I didn’t have everything I needed. Then I would have to compromise and use whatever I could find. Then I had to think more creatively.

Around the time I chose diy as my topic, we started remodeling my house. It was perfect because there was so much I wanted to try on my own. I learned all the steps of painting my walls, and refinishing our cabinets. There were so many things I didn’t think you could do yourself. Also, because of this project my room looks a whole lot better. I hung lights, sewed pillows, and made decorations for my wall.

Despite me not achieving my goal, I did enjoy this process. Looking at all of the unique crafts was interesting. After looking at all the different ideas, I started thinking of my own.

This topic was great for me. My whole family is very artistic and creative thinking. So when I needed help with something, all I had to do was ask. My mom and I bonded over these crafts. She’s taught me a lot about crafting. So I was able to take what I’ve learned from her and do things on my own. So thank you Mrs. Browning for this opportunity. I wouldn’t have learned how much fun doing things on your own is, without this project.

20% Time Project Proposal

Name: Juliana Johns
Project Title: DIY crafts
Project Start Date: November 7, 2014
Project Completion Date: May 21, 2015
Mentor’s Name: Mrs. Browning, Mom, Grandmother
Brief Description: I am going to spend my 20% researching, and doing DIY crafts.

 Overview of Project Proposal
 Project Objective:

I want to spend my 20% time, by researching DIY crafts, and learning to do them. One of my hobbies is crafting, so I will be learning new crafts, and enjoying the time I spend doing them. Every few weeks I’ll do a new craft, and then post a picture and procedures on how I did it on my blog. Then, I’ll be learning new crafts, and teaching anyone who is reading my blog.

Project Rationale:

The reasoning of this project is simple. The DIY crafts that I do can be lamps, room decor, and useful things. While doing these crafts I may need to learn some new skills, like sewing or even cooking. My mom and my Grandmother are both very artistic, so they will be very valuable with this project. Crafting is my hobby, so I would like to learn more about it. I can spend time at school learning and doing things that I enjoy.

Project Steps:

v  Research DIY projects

v  Learn how to do the projects
v  Practice crafting

 Available Human and Material Resources:
v  Grandmother, mom
v  Pinterest
v  Teachers
v  Crafting websites
v  Youtube tutorials of DIY projects

Possible Road Blocks:

I could come to plenty of road blocks. I could run out of DIY projects to do. I may not have time in my week to craft, so I could get behind.  There are lots of things that could stop me from doing this project, but it’s important that I stay motivated.

 Research Questions:
v  Will I enjoy DIY for my 20% project?
v  Will I get bored?
v  Will I be learning anything, by doing this?

This is my second blog post, and I think I finally decided what I want to do for my 20% project. I want to learn to start crafting, and doing DIY projects from using things around the house. I hope to do a project every few weeks. Then, I'll post a picture, and the procedures. Then I'll be learning new DIY projects, and hopefully teaching anyone who is reading my blog.
